Youth Chair Mark Haldman presented the BJ Metz Young Person of the Year Award to Davene Javier, a senior at Wilson High School. Davene was introduced to volunteering at an early age as she routinely visited an assisted living facility. She would call out the numbers for their Bingo games and help them assemble jigsaw puzzles. Her summer lemonade stand raised money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. M
ore recently, she volunteers at St. Luke’s Easton hospital delivering ice water and newspapers to patients. Davene volunteers for Riverside Ministry at her church, serving people without a home who need food and fellowship. She leads volunteer opportunities within her school’s HOSA Future Health Professionals Club which she founded.
Her Award includes a plaque and a $1,000 check. Although the Award is not based on academics, Davene was also Class Valedictorian. She is headed to Boston College and looking forward to a career in Pathology.
