Our program features Easton Rotarian Lynn Schoof who presented her classification talk. Lynn was born and raised in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in an area complete with horse and buggy drivers and Amish farmers. She graduated from Cedar Crest High School before moving on to Penn State University where she earned degrees in Print Journalism and Economics. Her first interview brought her to Easton and a position as the Slate Belt reporter for the Express Times. Her introduction to local politics included covering the antics of the unforgettable Ron Angle.
She fell in love with Easton and also with a man named Dustin, to whom she has now been married for five years. They held their wedding at the historic State Theatre and both have the honor of having a beer named for them at Two Rivers Brewing. Lynn is a cat mom and the household features two fur babies: three-legged Streaky and newcomer Shamus. She volunteers on the Board of Governors for the Karl Stirner Arts Trail and also chairs the Artful Dash 5K fundraiser. She enjoys baking and produces special cake projects. She also likes to put together charcuterie boards. Leftover bananas will inevitably wind up in the mix for vegan banana chocolate chip cookies. She completed 8 half marathons since 2014 but knee troubles have sidelined her in recent years. Lynn is a self-professed beer snob which helps explain her part time position at Weyerbacher Brewery where she loves the product but also the team and the atmosphere. Her favorite beer styles are saison and IPAs.
Her primary employment is as the Communications Manager for Via of the Lehigh Valley. Theorganization provides services for children and adults with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. Their territory includes the Counties of Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Bucks, and Berks. Via has been voted one of the top five workplace environments in the Valley. She maintains the organization’s social media accounts through Facebook and Instagram. She creates and edits marketing materials, helps with annual appeals, and produces press releases. She followed her presentation with a quick quiz and those who were payingattention were rewarded with a nice selection of Weyerbacher beer.
