Our program featured Julie VanOsdol who is the new Manager of the Easton Main Street Initiative which is a subsidiary of the Greater Easton Development Partnership. The mission of EMSI is to promote, encourage, and enhance the economic strength and vitality of the City’s central business district. Their territory covers a 20 square block area bound by the Delaware River on the east, the Lehigh River to the south, the Bushkill Creek to the north and Sixth Street to the west.
EMSI funds a large number of projects downtown, from facade improvements on existing businesses to many special events at Centre Square or Riverside Park. They are in charge of the Ambassadors program and the Public Market. Events are held to bring the business community together. Breakfast roundtables are held quarterly and are open to all businesses. The Business Bugler is a printed quarterly newsletter that is hand-delivered to all downtown businesses. An electronic newsletter promoting upcoming events is circulated via email every Friday.
Other projects include Little Free Libraries, Peace Candle Lighting, flower planting, Lafayette student tours, artist-designed bike racks, wall poems, and an Easton experience map and guide. The vision for Easton is to maintain a small-town atmosphere and to be a welcoming environment for newcomers. EMSI has applied for and has been named 1 of 8 semi-finalists for the national Great American Main Street Award.
