October 26, 2017. Our program featured Will Isemann who is the President/CEO of KidsPeace which is a private charity dedicated to serving the behavioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities. It was originally founded in 1882 after a smallpox outbreak resulted in a significant number of orphans in the Bethlehem area. The original name was the Children’s Home of South Bethlehem which eventually became known as the Wiley House and, eventually, KidsPeace. The organization provides a unique psychiatric hospital; a comprehensive range of residential treatment programs; accredited educational services; and a variety of foster care and community-based treatment programs to help people in need overcome challenges and transform their lives.
KidsPeace provides emotional and physical health care and educational services in an atmosphere of teamwork, compassion and creativity. KidsPeace offers services in Georgia, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Many of the children that wind up at KidsPeace have experienced some form of trauma which might include mental, sexual, or physical abuse. They are often referred to KidsPeace after winding up in the emergency rooms at local hospitals. There were 7,000 referrals last year but only 2,300 could be accommodated. These referral numbers continue to rise. The sad truth is that there is an ever-increasing need for these services. Fortunately, for those in need, KidsPeace is there to provide hope, health, and healing.
