June 21, 2012.Our program featured a pilgrimage to North 4th Street to attend the dedication ceremony for the Mural project created in honor of former long-time Easton Rotarian Ted Pierce. The Easton Rotary Service Foundation was a beneficiary of Ted’s estate which granted us $25,000. The money was to be spent on $5,000 projects each year until the gift was gone.Ted was a devoted community servant as well as a noted journalist. He brought high school sports to the community through radio broadcasts.
The Greater Easton Development Partnership attempts to encourage cooperation and build leadership in the business community and create a positive image for downtown Easton by promoting it as an exciting place to live, visit, shop and invest. GEDP includes three popular Easton programs including: Easton Ambassadors, Main Street Initiative, and the Farmers’ Market. The mural is a project of the Main Street Initiative who placed a call for art representing the vibrant music and art scene in Easton. A collection of artists known as the Freehand Music Group designed a series of silhouettes depicting various musical instruments including piano, saxophone, bass, drums, and trumpet.
The group created the art which was placed on the side of the Lafayette Hotel. A commemorative plaque recognizes Easton Rotary’s contribution as well as the memory of Ted Pierce. Other improvements to 4th Street include a newly paved road and trees planted in large pots.
